Dare County Restaurant Association's Taste Of The Beach Donates $2,500.00 to The Community Care Clinic and Other Charities

(Kill Devil Hills, N.C., May 16, 2006) - The Community Care Clinic tops the list of charitable donations made by the Dare County Restaurant Association this year following another record breaking year for their annual Fundraiser "Taste Of The Beach."

Taste of the BeachDCRA President Ben Sproul presented a check for $2,500.00 to the CCC recently to help fund ongoing operations. Larry Barker, who collected the check on behalf of the CCC said, "We are grateful for the generous support of the Restaurant Association." The health services provided by the CCC are intended for uninsured and under-insured members of our community. Recent data from the group revealed that 42% of the persons cared for by the clinic are employed in the restaurant industry. "The Association has been a supporter of the CCC since its inception, but when we heard that figure our members were inspired to increase the size of our donation this year."

The Taste Of The Beach is an annual event held by the DCRA during which participating restaurants offer samples of their menus to the public. This year's event drew over 600 people to the Ramada on March 26th. Three trophies and cash prizes were awarded to the following restaurants for 2006 honors. The Left Bank won for Best Presentaion, Penguin Isle took Best Overall, and the coveted People's Choice Award went to Awful Arthur's. In 2007, the event is expected to move to the new Hilton.

The competition was especially tough considering the wide array of top notch eateries participating including Hilton Gardens, The Lifesaving Station at The Sanderling, Pine Island Diner, Mako Mike's, Sam & Omies, Slammin' Sammies, The Pit Boardrider's Grill, Barefoot Bernies, The Weeping Radish, Peppercorns, and Port O Call. Generous support also came from associate members Pepsi, Albemarle Distributing, Tyron Distributing, Mutual Distributing, City Beverage, and Coastal Beverage.

This year, the raffle at Taste Of The Beach benefited the Dare County Relay for Life. Other charitable donations made by The DCRA included $911.65 in support of The March Of Dimes Walk America, and a $500.00 donation to the Food Bank of The Albemarle.

"We are very fortunate here," Sproul continued, "to have such a wealth of exceptional dining options. The quality and diversity of offerings is incredible. At the same time, as an industry, we have to continue to highlight these strengths through marketing and events like the Taste Of The Beach in order to preserve and enhance this wonderful resource. Being able to support vital services like those provided by the CCC at the same time is the proverbial icing on our cake."
